ITS/Transportation Engineer

We are currently seeking an ITS/Transportation Engnieer to provide project management for implementation of NITTEC projects, including consultant management for new and ongoing system upgrades. Provide technical design review of Coalition Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects. Provide traffic engineering for evaluation and presentation of regional traffic management programs. Develop and evaluate regional traffic management programs including travel time and traveler information system development.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position requires knowledge of software and computer systems, highway construction, traffic engineering, operations and management and ITS operation. Experienced with GIS and standardized quality program is beneficial.

Review of design documents and technical proposals and representing NITTEC at regional ITS project meetings. Serve as a liaison between NITTEC and member agency personnel on regional ITS projects.

Continue to develop and enhance regional transportation network performance measures. Provide analysis to show the effectiveness of the ITS program on the regional transportation network, including impacts from congestion and incidents. Research industry trends to continually develop and enhance both systems and operational performance.

Monitor and track NITTEC and Coalition Member equipment status and reliability and provide reports to regional transportation agencies and stakeholders. Develop equipment specifications and procure new equipment and systems.

Responsible for website maintenance and future website initiatives including tracking and reporting on website statistics.

Update and continue the development of the NITTEC Standard Operating Procedures Manual, including the development of systems policies and procedures. Conduct quality audits of operational and system procedures and identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.

INTERPERSONAL INTERACTION:
Job requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively and command respect of professional and technical people of various organizations. Understanding of Regional Transportation System and Traffic management concepts with the ability to function independently.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Must be able to use and operate the following equipment:
• Computer workstation in a windows application environment.
• CAD and / or GIS preferred.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a minimum of a 4-year college degree in Science or Engineering. Previous project management, quality auditing and transportation related experience preferred.
